Course Information

What's new?

Jan 2: All grades are now on-line.

What's old?

Dec 13: The final exam is Tue Dec 17, 1:00-3:00 pm, in our regular classroom.

Dec 13: Since HW 4 was returned to you late, as announced in class on Tue Dec 10, you do NOT have to turn in HW 5; however it is recommended that you at least look at the HW 5 questions as an aid in studying for your final exam. Your graded HW 4's are in a large envelope, taped to my office door.

Dec 10: Homework 5 has been assigned.

Nov 11: Grades including Exam 1 and Project 1 are now on-line.

Nov 10: Project 2 has been assigned.

Nov 10: Homework 4 has been assigned.

Nov 8: Online notes for the i/o chapter are now available.

Nov 5: The test data used in grading project 1 is available, if you want to double-check how your project did. There was a bug in the test scripts 1, 2, and 4 (now fixed) that may have effected projects that tested "argc" to determine a dfl program's action.

Oct 10: The third set of homework exercises has been assigned.

Oct 3: Exam 1 will be on Thursday, Oct. 31; it will cover material from the first three chapters of your text and also the material from chapter seven on Unix scheduling and memory management.

Oct 1: The second set of homework exercises has been assigned.

Sept 28: More complete test scripts are now available for project 1. In addition, the dftest.c program has been modified to pause for 1 second between sends. This keeps it from getting too far ahead of the dftest receive process, making it easier to see what is going on, particularly in testing the "eager or." The new and modified files are available in an updated project tar file.

Sept 26: An improved "reset" and test scripts have been provided for project 1. A few minor editorial changes were also made to the project description. The new reset and test scripts are part of the updated project tar file.

Sept 24: Project 1 has been assigned.

Sept 16: The TA for the course is Kaihua Chen. Her office hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00-12:00, in room 231, the TA jungle room, next to the graduate terminal room. She will be grading your homework assignments and possibly some exam questions, and can help you--or at least give you a few hints, if you come with specific, well thought-out questions--with your homework assignments.

Sept 16: The first set of homework exercises has been assigned.

Sept 3: Welcome to Operating Systems! Most course information--including the syllabus, assorted handouts, project assignments, and selected lecture notes--will be made available on these web pages.
